Ian Ayson was the survey manager for the Hong
Kong Airport Authority from 1992 to 1997. He is a corporate member of the
NZIS, a fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors and a Level 1 Hydrographic
Surveyor (Institution of Surveyors, Australia). He has worked on large-scale
engineering and survey tasks in Australia, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Laos, Hong
Kong and New Zealand. He was in private practice in Wellington from 1967
until moving to Hong Kong in 1982. He worked as a senior land surveyor for
the Hong Kong government's Civil Engineering Department until 1992, when
he joined the Airport Authority. During his time there he became involved
in hydrographic surveying for charting and marine construction. On completion
of his contract with the Airport Authority he returned to his home at Raumati,
north of Wellington, and took up the position of practice manager for Terralink
in Wellington. With the demise of Terralink Ian is enjoying semi-retirement
and providing consulting services on national and international projects.
